We currently have members with ages from about 10 years to their seventies. To become a member, you must either complete a beginners' course with us to receive an official Archery GB membership card, or have a pre-existing Archery GB card. Membership to Archery GB ensures that you are correctly insured against injury whilst shooting and also grants you permission to enter competitions. For details of our membership costs, please contact us.
A full year’s membership of the St Austell Bay Archers from October to the end of September is £100 for seniors, £35 for juniors (under 18 years old), £93 for 21-24, £53 for 18-20, and £39 for archers with disabilities. This fee also includes membership of Archery GB (formerly GNAS), the national body, as well as the regional and local associations: the Grand Western Archery Society (GWAS) and the Devon and Cornwall Archery Society (DCAS). The club retains only £26 of the £100 to cover its running costs, with the rest going out in affiliation fees.
Discounts are available for families joining together:
Members who pay their affiliation fees through another club may rejoin SABA by paying our membership fee, which is £26.00 for those 18 and over, and £9.33 for juniors under 18. However, you may not shoot with SABA until you have paid the affiliation fees (which provide insurance cover).
The club will also handle your membership with the national and regional societies. As a member of Archery GB, you will receive a membership card with your official registration number, along with a quarterly magazine. This membership card allows you to shoot as a guest at any Archery GB-affiliated club.

While we welcome wheelchair users, access can be tricky at both sites. At Carnmoggas, there is a small but steep slope leading to the main doorway, and indoors there is an approximately one-foot high bowls ball runoff gulley and barrier separating the spectator area and the bowling green.
The club was formed in 1970 by Bert Tucker and Dave Phillips. The committee at that time included:
The outdoor range was at St Austell Rugby Club, Cromwell Road, which is now the site of the Asda store. Indoor shooting was at Polkyth Sports Centre. The club had around 65 members at that time.
The club has changed venues several times. From St Austell Rugby Club, we moved to Grampound Playing Field, then to other locations like the Rifle Range at Garker and indoor venues such as Charlestown Village Hall. Since 1995, our indoor venue has been at Carnmoggas Holiday Park, and most recently, our outdoor shooting takes place at AFC St Austell.
